Stick Welded Steel Cube

Stick Welded Steel Cube
This steel cube was a quick project to help learn the basics of Stick Welding. It is a 3"x3"x3" cube made from a Sheet of Steel. This was my first time Stick Welding, and there definitely was a difficult learning curve. However I learned a lot from my mistakes (moving too quick and having the stick too far away) through this training exercise. I enjoyed the process of working with metal, and I look forward to doing more projects that involve welding in the future.
The first step was to measure out six different 3" squares. Once I had a square drawn out, I used a Steel Cutting Chop Saw to cut the piece.
Using the Steel Cutting Chop Saw left spurs where the cut was made. So I cleaned up the edges with an Angle Grinder
Above is an image of a cut and grinded square. When I had made six pieces, I was ready to start welding.
I had a scrap piece of metal that I used to first practiced my welds on. This was helpful to understand how Stick Welding works before I started on my cube.
Next I aligned my squares to form a cube, and performed a Tack Weld to combine the pieces together.
Once I had Tack Welded everything in place, I completed the weld on all 6 sides. After finishing the weld, I used a Hammer and an Angle Grinder to knock off the Slag from the weld. And just like that, my Stick Welded Steel Cube was done!
